On 14 August 1946, the Brookfield Club moved from Club Lane — yes, that’s why it’s called Club Lane — into its new and present home on Brookfield. The building was purchased for the sum of £3,500 to provide a community space for returning servicemen.
That space has had its ups and downs over the past eighty years, but thanks to the strength of community spirit, it continues to thrive.
On Saturday 15 August, we held Brookfest, celebrating the wonderful community of Barrow upon Trent and the Club’s Oaken Jubilee.
The day’s festivities began with our youngest villagers in mind, with a wonderful children’s entertainer keeping the kids enthralled with music, dancing and magic.
Musical entertainment saw us through the afternoon and into the evening. We kicked off with the amazing double act that is The Wake Mason Duo, who provided the soundtrack to our afternoon with some classic ’60s and ’70s bangers.
Our evening entertainment saw the return of a Brookfield favourite, The Far Away Cows, whose infectious sound had even the most sedentary of villagers up and dancing.
All in all, the Brookfield’s 80th birthday celebrations were a resounding success. A fantastic day, celebrating a fantastic community.

A very big thank you to Michelle and all her hardworking staff for the burgers, hot dogs, awesome chips and all the other delights that kept us fed throughout the day — and for keeping the festivities flowing and our stoic bar staff for keeping everyone properly hydrated! ❤️
