The Quiz

Once a month and always on the very last Friday of the month The Brookfield hold a quiz evening. It’s the sort of quiz whereby the questions almost get in the way of the socialising. None of this “Hush now Ethel, the quiz master is speaking” malarkey, Oh no. Questions are generally on a printed sheet and can be answered in any order at your leisure usually after much heated discussion by the team members. Part of the sheet (with your answers) will be collected in due course. Whilst we are on the subject of teams we will point out that there are no particular rules as to the number of members that may enter as a team, we leave that to your judgement and personal moral compass. We have solo ‘Billy-no-mates’ teams and we have teams that would make the charge of the light brigade look like the gathering of the Hannibal Lector fan club. Four is a lovely number but we will leave it at that.

The quiz invariably consists of four rounds. Three written and very often a fourth ‘audio’ round. This can take many musical and non musical forms but will usually challenge you in ways other than the ubiquitous Artist/Title/Year. Due to the nature of the round it may well be necessary to -In the words of Chas n Dave- Stop your Rabbit and lend an ear.

Somewhere near the middle of the evening the air will fill with the heady aroma of freshly fried Fish and chips skilfully cooked and delivered by Shelton Lock fish bar (multiple time winners of “Best fish and chips in Derbyshire” award). At the beginning of the evening we will take orders from each team for who’s in the quiz (£2) and who’s for fish and chips (£8 + £1.50 each for peas, gravy or curry pots). Once separated from your money you are virtually guaranteed a good time and a full belly.

Bring a pen, but most importantly, bring friends.
